Hi Joe,
Agreed on your points. Like me, I own both Mac and PC and am planning to utilize both sets of cloud devices into my personal and professional work. I think that Apple's cloud strategy is in sync with how the Mac strategy was back then: a slow cult-like following that becomes a stronger, more powerful brand in the long-term. Both are strong to their own rights. Dropbox can definitely win the battle to some degree, and I like the fact that you said that it is definitely a seamless integration across many platforms. While that is one of their main and strongest value prop, that may not be what is needed to win the war, and in long-term strategy, I think Apple may steam ahead.

But then again, game is still up in the air :) Thanks for the comments!

The fact remains that most Apple device owners are also owners or users of other devices as well (such as PCs and Blackberrys). Dropbox can win because of its seemless integration across so many platforms. 2GB and 5GB storage isn't much. I foresee both being strong. I plan to use iCloud for my music and videos and continue to use Dropbox for my documents and photos that I share with my colleagues and use on other non-Apple devices, namely my company owned devices.

Hi Chris,

There aren't really too many books that are worth reading on this subject. I guess you can start with the "Dummy" books or "Idiot's guides" on SMM to start with the basic foundations, but it won't give you enough tools, strategies, and other ways to use SMM marketing. My personal suggestion is to follow and read up on people who are in the forefront of SMM. I'm listing them below.

<ul>
<li>Guy Kawasaki and <a href="http://social-media.alltop.com/" rel="nofollow">AllTop</a></li>
<li><a href="http://mashable.com/2008/11/07/social-media-marketing-plan/" rel="nofollow">Mashable</a></li>

Thanks for that response, Rick. I agree that one needs to understand the problem before they can fix it, but the reverse is also true: if they don't see the problem, then why should they fix it?

Good call on the fact that marketing, especially in this day/age/economy, is going to be much more crucial than ever before. Likewise, marketing departments are usually one of the first to go during layoffs, which can cause business exposure to falter.

Thanks again for the response!

This is an excellent breakdown of some of the problems and solutions to using advance technology and best practices.

I share your frustration with people who casually say they are able to deliver something and yet fail to deliver it based on their lack of understanding or limitations of current knowledge of the various possible solutions that may fit and solve a given problem.

It's crazy how few people are willing to learn new things and change their approaches when you consider the evolution of best practices and applications especially when it comes to such a crucial area as marketing.

I think a good substitute for "click here " would be "want more information?" once a particular problem and or potential solution has been clarified.

There's a lot of noise and few results out there and that's too bad considering the very specific solutions that can be applied to virtually any problem.

I think it depends, on the design on of the site. Some sites can have more, others should have less. I like the list you have, but it seems to be missing Twitter, and Del.

It would be nice to see what ones people are using that visit your blog, and then modify the list based on use.

Kevin, I agree. Both print and web designers go by the same design principles, but the target and methods to drive that target are very different. I do know of other designers who know both print and web -- and excel in both -- but they know marketing inside and out, in online and offline marketing. That's something that print designers do not necessarily have in place. And as you stated, SEO/SEM needs to be more predominant in the design aspects, as design should be more business and marketing-focused.

I agree. They are in two different worlds print designers and web designers. This should not be the case however. A good designer should be able to do both, and have the skill set to do both.

With online many of the print design principles still hold true. They just need to learn how to apply that knowledge online. If they don't, it will be very hard for them to get work in the future.

I think to be a good online designer you need to know more about marketing, than you do for print. It can't just look good or communicate well, it also needs SEO and metrics like you talked about.

Thanks, Kevin. The fact that it should be best practices in any PPC campaigns shows how generally PPC managers do not yield to best practices from the beginning - because most PPC managers aren't really PPC managers at all... They're marketing managers or project managers who are forced to wear many hats.

Hey Fred,

Yes, you will see a second part of my analysis on Google's Chrome (writing it as we speak!). One thing to note on erasing history on Chrome is that there is a dropdown that lists when you want to clear data from the selected periods:

Last day
Last week
Last 4 weeks
Everything

Check back for my next analysis on Chrome :)

no way to send web pages.

have to erase down load one at a time

PDF documents take for ever to open or will freeze

history list sucks every item looked at is a separate line item. I like the Fire Fox or I E format where they are bundled under catagories and as important you can erase any part of a history item, You can only erase an entire day on Chrome
