Social Media in a Nutshell

With any type of marketing, the end goal is to make something happen, whether it is to produce revenue, build brands, energize businesses, or simply network yourself. Marketing through social mediums should not be any different in pursuit of the end goal; rather, the methodology and mediums used can be different than other types of online marketing.

Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Ning, Squidoo and LinkedIn are such types of social mediums used for creative collaboration, marketing, and professional networking and development. Using these mediums as marketing and professional arms of your brand (and your web site) is critical nowadays for your web presence. But in all factors of relevancy and value added in each tweet, post, etc., there has to be a relational value that makes those tweets and posts personally relevant to that person. Otherwise, you're just another company selling a product.

As you can tell, my stance on Social Media is beyond the "value" or "business" of marketing. Social Media is an organic medium that, when done relationally, increases your integrity and value as a person and as a business.
